National Hire through its equity holding in Coates Group Holdings Pty Limited is a major participant in the equipment hire industry in Australia and is also a manufacturer and distributor of mobile lighting towers and a distributor of power generation and de-watering equipment.

Coates Hire is Australia’s leading general equipment hire company.

On 9 January 2008 National Hire in conjunction with The Carlyle Group completed the acquisition of all outstanding shares in Coates Hire Limited.

National Hire transferred its Rental Services business (including all assets and liabilities) for a total value of $348m and $70m in cash to Coates Group in return for a 47% economic interest representing an equal economic interest to Carlyle with the balance held by financial investors.

National Hire and Carlyle each hold a 50% voting interest in Coates Group.

This was a landmark transaction for National Hire and the resultant restructure means National Hire has exchanged full ownership of the #2 general equipment hire in Australia for a 47% investment in the #1 general equipment hire company.

     

Allight manufactures and distributes industrial mobile lighting towers and dewatering pumps and also distributes Perkins engines, FG Wilson power generators sets, and provides service and parts support for all their equipment.

In 2007 Allight commenced sales of a new lighting tower product which is manufactured at WesTrac’s facilities in China. This new lighting tower product will supply export markets.
